The Faversham News and Faversham Times (May 23) both report on last week’s visit to Faversham by celebrity Griff Rhys Jones. In his capacity as president of Civic Voice, an organisation which is working to get residents to play a bigger role in their communities, Griff visited the Fleur de Lys heritage centre and then saw the Faversham Creek Trust in action at the Purifier Building. Describing Faversham as “remarkable” and “unique”, he congratulated groups who are working to keep it that way, and said that if the government is serious about localism it must listen to these groups. He encouraged more people to get involved and work together. “We need to show people it is fun to get involved in these things,” he said.
