Town Council endorses expansion of steering group

At its meeting on 29 July, Faversham Town Council authorised the expansion of the Neighbourhood Plan steering group, suggesting there should be 4-5 new members to represent the Faversham Creek Trust and other groups. [The Faversham Society has been proposed as one such group, but there are likely to be other candidates to represent broader community interests.]

The Council also responded to the Creek Trust’s invitation to councillors and steering group members to a meeting at the Purifier Building. The original date suggested was not convenient, but an alternative date is to be arranged.

I am delighted that the need to involve residents has finally been recognised. It seems to have been noted that the public overwhelmingly do not want development of the kind displayed at the last exhibition.
The Trust has 500 members but will presumably be allotted only one place at the round table as will the Faversham Society. So I’m nominating King Arthur to get a place of his own!
I remain optimistic but nevertheless hope that they don’t just allocate the remaining 3 or so places to the developers. Cllr. Cosgrove did seem rather intent on this.
But for the time being, well done to the mayor and Faversham Town Councillors.

Let us hope that whoever goes on the group heeds this inspirational quote
“I believe that history is not made by cynics. It is made by realists who are not afraid to dream. And let us be these people.” (Tzipi Livni during Israeli Palestinian peace talks) Is there a parallel here? 🙂

I agree and they must not only be not afraid to dream but not be afraid to speak out and up loud and clear, and challenge when needs must – then the dream has a chance of becoming a reality for the many and not for the few.
